Kuromon Ichiba Market

Kuromon Ichiba traces back to 1822, when fish sellers began gathering near the gate of Enmyoji temple in central Osaka; it was formally established as a market in 1902 and took its nickname, "Black Gate," from the temple's dark-painted gate, which burned down along with the temple in 1912. Today the roofed, roughly 600-metre arcade holds around 170 shops selling fresh seafood, wagyu, produce and street-eaten skewers, and is nicknamed "Osaka's kitchen" because local restaurant chefs still buy their ingredients here alongside visitors grazing stall to stall.
